If you missed the original launch, the Back to Work – Regional Employment Package (Back to Work) is a two-year $150 million initiative designed to give businesses the confidence to employ jobseekers and provide an economic boost to regions facing challenging times. Recently, the State Government released some exciting budget announcements, including an extra $27.5 million allocated to the Back to Work program, which now includes South East Queensland.
From July 1st 2017, the Back to Work program will be extended to South East Queensland employers who take on a long-term unemployed or a young unemployed jobseeker (aged 15-24). Up to 1,500 new jobs will be supported by the increased funding, with eligible employers in line for support payments of up to $20,000 (for a maximum of 5 Back to Work employees).
Extra Youth Boost Payments and Employer Support will be available for employers who hire eligible jobseekers between July 1st 2017 and June 30th 2018. An eligible job must be full time or part time, located in South East Queensland including the following areas: Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba.
The Back to Work program offers eligible employers support payments up to:
- $15,000 for a long-term unemployed jobseeker, OR
- $20,000 for a young jobseeker (aged 15-24)
Additional funding of $50 million in 2017-18 will provide support for the continuation of the Back to Work regional program and up to 3,400 new jobs.
